Take heart!

Relevant Ministry Blog Schedule:
Tuesday - "About Spiritual Health in Life and Ministry"

Thursday - "About Relevant Women"

by Cyndi Coleman
Often it is said that after people go through a significant crisis together it will have either destroyed their relationship, or made them so strong that they are forever united.

Just as this dynamic is true in our human-to-human relationships, the same is true of our relationship with God.

In this life we are guaranteed trouble.  The scriptures tell us, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” John 16:33.

These troubles, if we allow them, can separate us from our Father when we need him most. God is after an intimate relationship with his children and nothing else will do. God uses these struggles, big and small, to draw us closer to him ever increasing our intimacy with him.

Living the Christian life does not mean absence of trouble or trial in life. What it can mean is absence of the hopelessness that can envelop us. Notice in verse 33 where the peace is; it is in Jesus, himself.

When trouble strikes, it is so easy to get discouraged, and easier to stay that way. However, as Christians, we are to be encouraged because no matter what trouble we find ourselves in, Christ has conquered it and stands ready to rescue, forgive, and love us. We face our trouble with Christ.

When trouble trips me up, it is very soothing to remind myself that no matter how annoyed, terrified, or overwhelmed I feel, Jesus is not at all surprised by my current crisis. He knew it was coming, he is in control and knows exactly how it will play out. He sees the end from the beginning. Provision awaits me; all I need do is seek him (Jeremiah 29:12-13). Often it takes these struggles in life to render us desperate enough to surrender and truly, seek God with all of our heart.

What current trouble is attempting to overtake you? Sweet sister, remember, he is near to you, even now. He is prepared to help you and longs to do so. Won’t you humble yourself and admit you don't have the answers; but you know he does? Won't you allow him to help you? He has paid a high price to do so.

How are your current circumstances being used by God to get your attention and draw you nearer to him?

How can you take heart and trust in God?

What steps do you need to take today to join God in this journey?
