Rotten Tomatoes

Relevant Ministry Blog Schedule:

Several weeks ago, a friend of ours gave us some beautiful tomatoes.  She had gone to a farmer’s market and ended up buying more tomatoes than she could use, so she decided to share her good fortune with us.

The tomatoes were so nice that I decided to try to hold off using them until company arrived.  We had some of our family coming to stay with us for ten days, so I thought this would be a great way to stretch the grocery budget.

“I want to get in the pool now, but I need to wait on my friend. It’s the right thing to do,” wailed my youngest child as she plopped down in the chair. She was choosing to do the right thing, but she was not happy about it.

Have you ever felt this way?

Recapture a lost dream

Relevant Ministry Blog Schedule:

When you have something on your mind,  do you just keep thinking about it?  That’s how I am when I’m writing an article for the blog, preparing a lesson, or just being creative about an idea.  I’m also that way when I feel stuck, frustrated, or trying to find a solution to a problem.

The other night, I had the greatest dream.

The storms of life

Relevant Ministry Blog Schedule:

I was raised in church and have heard the story of Job many, many times. I have learned a lot about myself and God each time. Sometimes I reminisce about a lesson God taught me, while other times I learn something completely new and fresh. Today was a day that one of these verses really stood out as though I had never read it before.

“Then the Lord answered Job out of the storm” Job 38:1.

Isn’t it intriguing that God chose to speak from within a storm? God could have chosen anything or any way. He could have used another burning bush, a cloud, a shining star, a host of angels, anything. Storms are frightening, and earlier in Job 2:18-19, a storm of sorts had taken the lives of all Job’s children.

So, why the storm?

Cruisin’ Through Life

Relevant Ministry Blog Schedule:

Next week is Cruisin’ the Coast.  Thousands of cars come to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for a week of events centered on classic cars, food and fun.  All along highway 90 you will see cars on display or on the road just cruisin’ with no particular place to go.  The traffic along the beachfront will be even more congested than usual and the locals will have to find alternate routes to travel to work, school or an appointment.

So, here’s the question on my mind…Are you just cruisin’ through life or do you have a plan?  If you don’t have a plan, how are you going to get to where you want to go?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had several conversations with people who are seeking the answers to those questions.  Almost every one of them said, “I feel stuck.”  “I want things to change but I just keep doing the same thing over and over and getting nowhere.”  Independently, all of them asked me the same question… “So, what’s the secret?”
