I fell in love with RM the first few days of wintermission

by Nelson Roth
Relevant Ministry hosts short-term mission trips for teams at the RM Center in Pass Christian, MS.  There are opportunities to serve with RM either as a team member or as an intern.

A one-year internship consists of 40 weeks of leadership training and development along with practical ministry experience.  Interns have an opportunity to serve in a local church and to help build up the church where they serve.

A Relevant Ministry internship provides an opportunity to experience spiritual mentoring and coaching in the area of ministry an intern would be serving in at a church.

Brittany Harkin shares how she was impacted during a week long mission trip by a Relevant Ministry intern, Kyle Long.

Thirty-six of us came to Mississippi to serve others. The servant’s hearts we saw at Relevant Ministry were like feeling the love of God firsthand.

Kyle Long, an RM intern, gave morning devotions about praying BIG prayers and I asked God to use me in whatever BIG way he wanted. So, God chose to use me in the lives of children who are often overlooked.

I have many stories about kids at the school where I served and the Boys and Girls Club that had been given up on. Throughout the week, I got to show the kids I believed in them and I met a very inspirational teacher that shares the word of God with students.

Although our group was not allowed to mention the name God, we could show them God’s unconditional love and his character was revealed; which stirred up a curiosity.

Seeing RM through different eyes

by Nelson Roth
Relevant Ministry provides opportunities for serving.  We refer to it as "living life on mission."  RM hosts short-term mission teams at the RM Center, that is just one mile north of the beach, in Pass Christian, MS.  Volunteers team up with the RM staff for what often turns out to be a life changing experience. Recently, Robin Ciganek came to the Coast to help serve in several ministry outreaches and to cook in the kitchen.  Here’s her experience in her own words.

A few weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to partner with RM by serving visiting short-term mission teams. I came with the intentions of working alongside RM, not realizing the impact it would have on my life.

Although I was aware of RM's mission along the Coast (to be relevant and relational in serving so that churches would be revitalized), I was able to experience firsthand RM living it out. Not only touching the lives along the Coast; but also, those who come to minister and serve.

Relevant Ministry exemplifies Christ by loving, encouraging, challenging and equipping the visiting mission-teams; along with providing many opportunities to serve. It was powerful seeing relationships being built, people being relevant about their faith and lives being changed; including my own. It is evident, RM continues to earnestly seek God's will and is selflessly following his leading.

Thank you RM for allowing me to partner with you. I received much more from this opportunity than I was able to give in return during my stay.

RM mission team serving at 28th Street Elementary School

by Angie Hegstrom
In January, we were blessed to host an awesome college group from ISU Encounter.  God opened the doors for a group of these students to tutor in a local public school. It was amazing how the teachers and administration were so receptive to this group.  The school allowed the college students to jump in with both feet and serve, build relationships and be the light of Jesus. To follow is a testimony from one of the teachers from the school, Angie August.

It was awesome to see how God worked through Relevant Ministry’s volunteers at our school. Their willingness to tutor students throughout the week made such an impact. It showed me that God’s love is not only displayed by knowing His word; but showing His word. What was so moving was their compassion and desire to serve all the students by tutoring, playing at recess, going to activity period, or just sitting with them and reading with them throughout the school day. Immediately on the first day, there was an unspoken understanding to those around them that they wanted to serve. They built relationships from the start with students and teachers. What I thought was a sincere effort to know the students was that the volunteers wanted to be part of the students’ daily routines including the time when the teacher’s had planning time. They could have stayed in the room and had a break, but they had the desire to build relationships and make every minute count. God’s love was shown by the serving of the volunteers. They have truly made a difference in the school, teachers, and students of Twenty-Eighth Street Elementary School.

Taking a break to serve

by Teresa Houchin
Spring break translated into a mission experience for 22 high school students and leaders from Calvary Academy of Springfield, Illinois during the week of March 9-16, 2013.

The week began with a trip to Hattiesburg, MS, to assist a local church that was heavily damaged from the recent February 10 Hattiesburg tornado.  During the rest of the week, the Calvary team ministered to the homeless by providing meals and by hosting a three-day Backyard Bible School at an apartment complex. Not only did this team impact the Coast; they were also greatly impacted.

“It was one of the greatest weeks ever. It changed my life and gave me a heart for service.”  Kayla

“I loved the challenges that the RM staff shared. They really spurred me on to serve more.”  Katelyn

“This week totally changed my life. I got to share the love of Jesus with all kinds of people.”  Abby
